Research

Me

I did my PhD at McGill in Music Technology, working with Stephen McAdams and Jonas Braasch in the Music Perception and Cognition Lab (MPCL). Since November 2010 I am a postdoc affiliated with University of California, Berkeley (ICSICNMATPar Lab).

Current Research Projects

Content Analysis of spatial sound scenes: separation, classifying and tracking of sounding objects and acoustical properties in 3D

SAM

I am developing a real-time analysis framework for large scale microphone arrays which can be used  for spatial audio content production and for retrieving acoustical features from the environment. This project is financed through a DAAD scholarship.

The Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format (SpatDIF)

I initiated SpatDIF, a format to describe spatial audio information in a structured way. This open format is under development, more under  www.spatdif.org.

Research Goals

My research goal is to improve the quality in spatial audio presentations through:

  • Research and development of content authoring tools and audio rendering techniques
  • Investigating studying loudspeaker-room interactions
  • Understanding the perception of spatial audio content and its reproduction artifacts
  • Investigating machine learning techniques for predicting the quality of spatial audio reproduction

Specialties and Interests
